This website was created not just to provide information, but to obtain it and share it. The problem of violence is endemic. We've all been effected by it, making it everyones problem. Thus the solutions, based on our own experiences and abilities, must also come from all of us. Please join us in this effort to educate and support one another. 

About Us

The Iowa Organization for Victim Assistance was established in 1983 as an equal opportunity, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization to educate Iowans regarding victim rights issues. IOVA is comprised of survivors of crime, witnesses, victim advocates, concerned citizens and related agencies and organizations. Annual awards are presented to persons who have contributed outstanding service to victims.

IOVA pursues awareness of and support for crime victims rights in Iowa by:
  • Advocating for short and long term changes in the criminal justice system to better meet the needs of victims and witnesses.
  • Educating professionals to provide more sensitive services to victims and witnesses.
  • Advocating for quality victim services through the establishment of a professional certification program for victim service professionals in Iowa.
  • Provide a forum for crime victims and witnesses to voice their concerns and grievances.
